Sweet Norah Grace...our little pirate.

Oh my how we love this little girl.  She is so sweet, and one of the absolute joys of our life! It's amazing how much you want to protect them and have everything be perfect for them. We noticed over a year ago, that she was squinting with her left eye. We thought it may be something to do with pirates and telescopes, as she can make anything a telescope (toilet paper rolls, rolled up paper, etc.), but in the past few months I've wondered if it's really her vision. And she also has a bit of a lazy eye, to be honest, I've noticed since she was really little, before a year. But I was the only one that noticed it, and thought it was no big deal. But it definitely got worse, and happens really often now and others can see it as well. She can even do it on command, we call it her "silly eye thing". And she then wiggles her head from side to side really fast and that makes it go away. She tells me it makes her see 2 of everything. (Pretty good explaining for a little girl if you ask me!) So after waiting 7 weeks to get her into the Pediatric Opthamologist, cause I'm a freak mom and wouldn't bring her precious baby eyes to a regular adult optometrist, we finally got her in!

At first, Norah didn't test very well at all with the vision in her left eye, but by the way she acted, I suspected she was just tired of looking at the same 3 pictures and her 3 year old attention span was kicking in. So when the doctor came in (the nurse had been testing her) I told her what I thought and asked her to test her again, and she tested just fine, yay!

However, she did say the lazy eye, or whatever she called it, was definitely there and was likely neurological, where her muscles in her left eye haven't developed as strong as the right eye, so when she gets tired, or wound up, or just because, her left eye starts to stray and not track along with her right one, and then her brain starts to shut her left eye down and she shuts it (hence the squinting).  This sometimes gets better on it's own, sometimes remains the same, but often gets worse if left untreated. So she prescribed that we patch her good eye every day for 2 hours for a month, in hopes of kicking the left one in gear!  They believe that this could help the left eye catch up.  We call this 2 hours/day "Pirate Time"
So, we are praying for a speedy healing/catching up of her sweet little left eye. Love this little girl soooo much. And what an adorable pirate ;)
